Register Now!PART 1: Neurolocalization
(2 videos, 2 credit hours)
Through this segment, viewers will become familiar with the essential basic concepts of neurology. We will discuss the goals of a neurological examination, demonstrate the execution of a complete neurologic exam, define each neurolocalization unit of the nervous system (forebrain, brainstem, spinal cord, nerve and muscle), and review the function and location of lower motor neurons (LMN) vs upper motor neurons (UMN).
Through understanding of these concepts, viewers will be able to effectively identify neurologic disease and localize the lesion to a specific area of the nervous system.
Estimated time to complete: 2 to 2.5 hours
PART 2: Seizures
(3 videos, 3.5 credit hours)
In part two, viewers will study the identification, causes, treatment, and prevention of seizures. Upon completion of this segment, viewers will understand how to differentiate seizure-like episodes from true seizures, and will be able to utilize history, signalment and exam findings to determine the likelihood that a seizure is being caused by idiopathic epilepsy vs structural disease. Viewers will also hear recommendations for treatment and long-term management of seizures. Data and clinical justifications will be presented, to aid in medication selection and optimize outcomes for every patient.
Estimated time to complete: 3.5 to 4 hours
PART 3: Vestibular and Inflammatory Diseases
(2 videos, 2 credit hours)
In the final segment, viewers will learn to readily identify clinical signs relating to vestibular disease and inflammatory CNS disease. Concepts will be presented to aid in patient-side differentiation of vestibular signs as “peripheral” or “central”. Viewers will understand how to communicate prognosis and treatment recommendations for both peripheral and central lesions.
Viewers will also learn how to define, identify, and treat inflammatory diseases of the brain and spinal cord, with emphasis placed on the most common form - meningoencephalomyelitis of unknown etiology (MUE).
