Amy Learn
VMD, DACVB
Dr. Learn grew up outside Philadelphia, PA and spent summers visiting family at the Jersey Shore where she still loves to visit. She attended undergrad in Bethlehem PA receiving a BS in Biology and worked at a wildlife conservation park in Texas before being accepted to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she completed an internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in NJ.
Dr. Learn remained in general practice until 2017, when she began her residency in Clinical Behavioral Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Lisa Radosta in South Florida, and ABWC's own Dr. Amy Pike in Northern Virginia. Dr. Learn is currently the Chief of Clinical Behavioral Medicine at the Animal Behavior Wellness Center in Richmond VA where she counsels clients from Richmond, Charlottesville, Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach, and North Carolina. In 2022, Dr. Learn became one of fewer than 100 Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorists in the world.
Dr. Learn has contributed to veterinary textbook chapters, journal articles, blogs and received the prestigious RK Anderson Resident Achievement Award from the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists for outstanding research in the field of applied animal behavior.
Amy Pike
DVM, DACVB, IAABC-CDBC
Dr. Pike is a native Arizonan and graduated from Colorado State University’s school of veterinary medicine in 2003. Working as an Army veterinarian after graduation and taking care of the Military Working Dogs returning from deployment spurred her interests in behavior medicine. Dr. Pike completed a Residency program and became board certified in 2015. She is owner of the Animal Behavior Wellness Center and was recently named one of the “Top Veterinarians of Northern Virginia” by NoVa Magazine for the eighth year in a row.
Dr. Pike speaks all over the world about veterinary behavior medicine, she has been published in numerous veterinary journals, she has conducted, co-authored, and published three scientific research studies, and is a contributing author in five clinical text books. She is the editor for the new edition of Blackwell’s 5 Minute Veterinary Clinical Consult- Canine and Feline Behavior, due out in 2025. In addition, she mentors 4 clinical behavior residents and is a clinical instructor for E-training for dogs, the Master’s Program in Applied Animal Behavior, and the veterinary behavior medicine course at Virginia Tech. She is an advisory board member for Royal Canin, Fear Free, and the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.
In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, reading, and hanging out with her active-duty Army husband, Tom, their 16-year-old daughter, Alexa, their 11-year-old son, Grayson, and their menagerie. The zoo includes a Giant schnauzer, a mini schnauzer, an Airedale, a Devon Rex, a hedgehog, and an Indian Ringneck.
